Love God

Series: Vision 2020 Topic: Praise Scripture: Luke 10:38–42

Community Group Questions:

Engage Yourself:

How does the story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42) help you to personally answer the lawyer’s question about what it means to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and mind (10:27)?

In claiming to love God, we are automatically signing up to love our neighbor. Where has this been difficult for you in your life? Why do you think that is?

Engage the Text:

Take a moment as a group to read through the entire chapter of Deuteronomy 6 together.

  • What insight does Deuteronomy 6 give us in terms of what it looks like to love the Lord with all of our heart, soul and mind?
  • What do we see in Deuteronomy 6 that shows us that the commandment to love the Lord is a COMMUNITY response to God, not merely an INDIVIDUAL response to God?

Why do you think Luke would use this story (Luke 10:38-42) to illustrate what it means for us to love God? Think through some of the connections.

Engage your Neighbor:

Before answering the lawyer about what it means to love the Lord with all his heart, Jesus tells a story about how we love our neighbor. How is loving our neighbor a very real part of what it means to love God, and what are some tangible steps you can take toward this as a community group?

Are there any things from our text regarding loving God or loving God BY loving others that you feel like you need to take to heart?  Are there any that you can seek to apply together as a community group?
